Lady Z
Lady Z is the alter ego of London based acoustic artist Z-Star. Best known for her incredible stage energy and dynamic vocal range, the charismatic singer-songwriter, producer & mc has written, recorded and performed with artists such as Youssou N'Dour, Angelique Kidjo, Nate James, Omar, Keziah Jones, Natacha Atlas, Nigel Kennedy and soul jazz legend Terry Callier, who lovingly gave her the name Lady Z during a recording session at Incognito's Blue studio.
Under the moniker Z-Star she released her debut album in 2004 on VirginEmi ita to much press acclaim and subsequently was asked to do a seven page spread for Italian Vogue. She has made several live appearances on Festival Bar, MTV live, The Vagina Monologues and Glastonbury.
London born with Trinidadian roots, Z-Star (pronounced Zee) her passionate and spontaneous personality fuels the soul jazz sound of her music making it fresh blue-urban melodies with jazz-scat sass. Her songs sound like instant classics lyrically poetic and introspective. She is a regular feature at summer festivals around Europe and runs two successful residencies in the Brick Lane area. When performing, Z is wildly spontaneous and always unforgettable.
Lady Z is also one half of the of the soulful duo SOULTRAINSOUL, alongside Morten Verano. The two hit it off as soon as they met, back in 2002, and after a series of live dates ending with a landmark performance at Ruskilde Festival in the summer of the same year; the pair got together to form Slow Train. Their first collaboration Illegal Cargo was released in 2003 and their second album Santimanitay in 2006. Their 2007 european tour takes in The UK, Italy, Denmark and Poland.
